Your Pet's Dental Hygiene-It's a Priority

West Milton Veterinary Clinic believes that dental care is as important for your pet as it is for you. Preventive care with teeth brushing, dental diets and specially treated chews can help greatly in keeping your pet's teeth clean and gums healthy, however thorough professional cleanings are required to prevent tooth loss and gum disease.
If your pet does develop dental problems that cause him pain, you may not notice. That's because our pets have evolved to hide their pain and never show a sign of weakness. They may eat just fine but have bleeding gums or abscessed teeth. And, unfortunately, periodontal (gum) disease occurs five times as often in pets as it does in people.
We are committed to helping you maintain your pet's health, we have made the price of routine dental cleaning affordable. After a thorough in office dental assessment we can provide you with an estimate of treatment cost.
We recommend a routine exam and cleaning once a year to keep your pet from developing dental issues that require furter treatment and threaten your pet's health. We are happy to schedule an appointment, please call our office for available times.

Bailey has a routine dental cleaning procedure.
What to expect with your pet's complete dental cleaning;
Full general anesthesia is required and for this reason blood work will be completed, results obtained immediately in our in-house lab will be the first step to ensure your pet's health status makes him a good candidate for the procedure. Your pet will have an IV catheter and fluids as well as their oxygen, heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure and body temperature monitored during the entire procedure. We use a warm air warming system for additional comfort.
We will begin with x-rays of every tooth and root, looking for any pockets of infection or bone loss. This is a very important step, as just cleaning the tartar off the tooth surface will not stop infection or treat a painful tooth. We need to know what is happening at the tooth root to prevent your pet from being uncomfortable.
After the x-rays a thorough cleaning of the tooth surface, above and below the gum-line using gentle scaling by hand and ultra sonic technology is then followed by polishing of all teeth. The entire mouth will be checked for abnormalities as well.
